Speaking Tour: Women & War in Columbia
A presentation with Sonia Lopez.

May. 3nd, Tue., 6 to 9 pm
Come learn about the struggle for peace with social justice in Colombia, and how you can support Sonia and the other courageous people that are risking their lives in that struggle. This speaking tour is sponsored by Witness for Peace Southwest.

Live Musical Performance: BJ Blunt

Raised in the barrios of East Los Angeles, BJ Blunt performs music about the experiences she has gone through. She is a very gifted song writer and rapper, and expresses
her heart and soul..

Artist Workshop: Artist in Residence

City of Los Angeles, Cultural Affairs Dept. presents an Artist Workshop on Fundraising. Come join us for the who, what, where, and how on getting grants and donations for artist projects. Facilitated by arts grantwriter Susan Braig.

Closing Art Reception: Photos by Marisa Estrada

"Untitled" is the name of Marisa Estrada's photo exhibit currently running at Tia Chucha's. Come and meet Marisa (aka Ritzy Periwinkle), to discuss her photopraphy. Live entertainment TBA.

Live musical performance with
La Sonora del Caribe.
May 14th, Saturday. 8 - 10 pm
Come and dance to La Sonora del Caribe, a musical group which performs cumbia music. They take the authentic sound of cumbia and musica tropical to create a genre of music which continues to enrich the world.

Book Reading: Frank del Olmo - Commentaries on His Times. May 19th, Thurs. 7:30 pm
In a tribute to the late Frank del Olmo, The Times has published Frank del Olmo: Commentaries on His Times, a compilation of 90 columns by del Olmo offering a historical sweep of some of the most important issues of the last quarter century. Magdalena Beltran-del Olmo, Frank Sotomayor and Senator Richard Alarcon will be reading excerpts from the collection of del Olmo’s columns.

Produced by Inland Mexican Heritage, the film unfolds across several rapidly changing landscapes as open and rural spaces in the region are remade into an artificial paradise living on borrowed time. This disturbing, powerful film also provides a glimpse at people’s hopes and ideas for community empowerment and environmental justice as means to a more sustainable future. Producers will be present to discuss the film.

Ramona Winner's Freaky Foods From Around the World tells the story of a grandmother who cooks lunch for her grandson’s school friends but the menu is all but common. The children learn about foods from other countries. They learn a great lesson in tolerance and on the value of trying new things.
