A 1 hour biweekly class, Son Jarocho will provide instruction on playing the traditional music style of Veracruz, Mexico. Students will learn how to play the jarana guitar and sing, while learning the historical and current importance of Son Jarocho.

Este taller es de 1 hora, dos veces a la semana. Esta clase de Son Jarocho enseñará el estilo tradicional de música de Veracruz, México. Los estudiantes aprenderán cómo tocar la guitarra jarana y cantar mientras se aprende la importancia histórica y actual del Son Jarocho. *Instructor: Xochi O. Art Making

Thursdays/Jueves Feb 3-March 17, 2011 @ 6-8pm

This 2 hour class, will engage students and allow them to work on whimsical and inventive work, using classic symbols and forms from pre-Columbian and contemporary Mexican and Chicano/a arts. Students will create projects in clay, fused and printed glass, silkscreen and stamp printing on many surfaces. They will create printed tiles, small clay sculptures, and mosaic tiles made of assembled materials. *Instructor: Michele Martinez &

Screen Printing Workshop

This screen-printing workshop will provide the tools and know how to build a small screen press along with techniques to screen print posters, t-shirts, stickers, etc for informing and promoting just ideas.

Bicycle Street Safety/Fix-it Workshop

Saturday, March 13, 2011 at 1-4pm

CICLE is proud to have its first workshop in the Northeast Valley. This presentation will consist of two parts.

Traffic Basics Workshop: 
For the first part of the class, we will help you develop a thorough understanding of the basic principles of bicycle and traffic safety. For the second part of the class, you’ll need your bike, because we’ll be hittin’ the road for an easy bike ride that will put what you just learned into practice.

Fix-it Workshops: 
Maintenance workshops are presented by one of the city's bicycle repair collectives. The co-op representatives, in this case Bikesanxs del Valle, will provide a maintenance presentation and individual advice. Topics included are roadside repair, preventative maintenance, basic diagnostic, and individual Q&A.

Trans-Latin@s and their experiences

Trans-Latin@s faced multiple issues living in the US. The Trans-Latin@ Coalition focuses on advocating for the rights of Latin American trans individuals living in the US. The mission of the Trans-Latin@ Coalition is to provide a space where Trans-Latinas Leaders and allies would advocate for the specific needs in their local communities to better the quality of life of trans latin@s residing in the US. Our mission is accomplish by:  Having a network of trans Latin@ leaders at a national level who advocates for the advance and empowerment and of trans Latin@s who reside in the US. Incresased trans Latin@ visibility through aceptance. Advocacy through better laws of protection for civil rights, health care, social, and cultural competent services for the trans Latin@ community. Understanding the importance of "Unity" our theme is: "Our Unity is our Development"

Meditation & Ancestral Ecology

Students will begin with breathing and stretching exercises to help relax and, by filling our own selves, we can explore the depths of our HUMAN-DIVINE POTENTIAL. The last 30 minutes will include an open discussion about personal experiences durring the session. Equipment/Materials Needed: Every student should bring a gym towel and athletic clothing.

Beginner’s 9:30am-10:30am & Intermediate 11:00am-12:00pm

An 8-week technical and practical class for guitar playing. Beginners will be learning how to tune their guitar, basic chords and chord progressions, basic scales, and picking and strumming techniques. Intermediates will learn more chord shapes and voicings, improve picking and strumming techniques, improvisation and songwriting. All students will develop their creativity, confidence and performing etiquette. Class fee will be discussed at the first day of class.

Curso técnico y práctico de guitarra de 8 semanas. Los principiantes aprenderán a afinar si guitarra y progresiones basicas, escalas básicas, y tecnicas de digitacíon y rasgueo. Los intermediarios aprenderán más figuras y voces de acordes, mejorarán sus tecnicas de digitación y rasgueo, practicarán improvisación y composición. Beginning Art & Design

Sundays/Domingos 1-3pm

Ends/ Termina March 21st

Participants will learn basic sketching techniques through the use of color pencils and pen, learn to understand the use of color and its effect on the mood of an art piece, and bring images to life through the use of depth and texture. Participants are required to bring their own materials: color pencils, pens, pencils, erasers, and a sketchbook. Students' art will be displayed at a culminating Art Show at Tia Chucha's. $10 per class, no one turned away for lack of funds. *Facilitated by Kristy Sandoval.

This 10-week writing workshop will help empower women's voices by promoting the art of expression through words--both written and spoken.
